BRT Vietnam Commissions Expanded EditShare Storage System from Danmon Asia

Danmon Asia announces the completion of expanded digital media storage for Ba Ria – Vung Tau Radio & Television (BRT) which broadcasts across southeastern Vietnam. Based on EditShare® technology, the newly integrated system is designed to enhance the efficiency of BRT’s workflow, increasing the station’s online storage capacity and adding automated archiving.

“We selected EditShare as our preferred storage technology some years ago,” says BRT Technical Manager Le An Thi. “It proved a good choice, expanding the creative potential of our production team. Danmon Asia partnered very effectively with us from the initial design phase and onward through implementation, system testing and staff training. The Danmon Asia team also provides fast and effective maintenance support on the rare occasion that we need it. We recently began studying the potential for automating some of the manual aspects of our production, archiving and presentation process. After researching the various products in the marketplace, we decided to expand our Editshare infrastructure into a complete solution embracing ingest, quality control, storage and editorial vetting right through to transmission. The result is very effective in accelerating our media throughput while sustaining BRT’s high content quality.”

“The expanded system we have supplied and integrated includes four EditShare EFS 300 storage nodes with a combined capacity of 640 terabytes for use in video production,” adds Danmon Asia General Director Bjarne Pedersen. “Each EFS 300 is equipped with EditShare Flow production asset management software. This gives BRTs editors fast access to file-based ingest, logging, cataloging, searching, cuts-only editing and drag-and-drop resources. We have also provided an Editshare Ark content management library incorporating LTO-8 drives which can be accessed quickly from the online servers.”

EditShare’s Flow software serves as a control layer across multiple storage pools, offering fast production tools plus highly efficient asset and metadata tracking. A single EFS 300 can support from one to eight additional storage nodes. Up to 5 Petabytes of total storage can be accommodated by adding dedicated metadata controllers and servers for Flow and Ark.

EditShare Ark allows users to backup essential media assets automatically. Unused assets can be parked in nearline disk and offline tape storage. Operators can also restore backups from nearline and offline destinations. Up to 560 LTO-8 tape slots can be supported. Ark is also compatible with third-party LTO tape libraries.

EditShare’s cloud-enabled remote editing and project management technology was recently recognised by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with a prestigious 2021 Emmy® Award for Technology and Engineering.

TRR | 4K Hybrid Studio Production Solution

TRR | 4K Hybrid Studio Production Solution

TRR wanted to increase the production quality for all connected employees and members and wanted a future secured scalable easy operated high-end turnkey system solution.

RR offers expert assistance to redundant white-collar staff, employers and trade union representatives in the private sector and they do regular TV productions, interactive digital meetings, such as panel discussions and informational educational videos both onsite in their studio and as a request to be available remotely with interactive digital meeting produciton possibility.

Fredrik Fejde, responsible for this project explains: TRR media production is based on two studios as well as outdoor environment production and is controlled from one control room in Stockholm city in order to make interactive media production on the TRR streaming platform for various alliance unions, unemployed etc. which are connected to TRR.

The system solution is based on Panasonic 4K UE150 PTZ cameras and Panasonic ENG camera and Technopoint rail solution. Sennheiser wireless audio, Yamaha TF1 Audio Console with Dante stageboxes and  Blackmagic 8K Constellation switcher to act both as a switcher and router and even partial audio mixing.

FX Blue graphics system, simple graphics system for both designer and operator.

Distribution of SDI and network prepared for 12G based on Blackmagic 12G Optical Fiber converters with SFPs.

Most of the system will be controlled via macros on a StreamDeck panel to simplify production workflow for the operator.

Additional Quicklink STS410 hybrid switcher has been installed to create digitial interactive high-end meetings and productions possible with many simultaneosly participants with high-end both video and audio production at very low latency.

Pre-screen, control and manage guest participants in a conferencing room with additional participants that can view and listen to the live program in a virtual waiting room. This powerful hybrid switcher also includes the power of the cloud with custom overlays, as well as streaming and professional hardware broadcast outputs.

By slowly moving your PTZ camera sideways, you create a whole new depth in the image.

TRR wanted to increase the professional feeling in its productions by adding camera movement sideways. Panasonic Tuning became the solution.

Tuning is a robotic system that adds movement of PTZ cameras with motorized dollies and telescopic columns.

Tuning is fully integrated with Panasonic's PTZ cameras, in this case the AW-UE150 and controller AW-RP150.

The heart of the camera movement system is the Tuning S software and "Presets" can be easily created and recalled, so that the camera movement (Pan / Tilt / Zoom) is synchronized with the movement of the column and dolly.

The system is designed for one-man operation and thanks to a touch screen and a user-friendly interface based on thumbnails and keyframes, the operation is simple and secure.

This will possible be blueprinted as a solution for TRR and other locations in Sweden in the future. The project is done by Danmon Group Sweden AB and Foxway Sverige.

System of LED screens renewal in the main sets of RTVE by Datos Media

Madrid, Spain, July 15th , 2021 –  Datos Media has completed the integration of an entire LED screen monitoring system for TVE's news set. High-end products have been chosen from Alfalite, a Spanish company with more than 20 years of experience in the sector, together with technology from NovaStar.

The project encompassed two separate locations: RTVE Torrespaña and RTVE Prado del Rey.

RTVE TORRESPAÑA

A total of 4 screens of different lengths (4, 7, 9 and 15 metres) with a height of 2.5 metres have been installed and configured, distributed across the main information services set. The largest screen has a length of 14 metres and a resolution of 9,830,400 pixels (7680 x 1280 active). The total screen surface area installed on this set is close to 90 square metres, using 350 ModularPix Pro 1 modules from Alfalite with corresponding processing and scaling systems from NovaPro from NovaStar. A NovaPro UHD integrates video processing, sending to LED screens up to 3840 x 2160 resolution and to the control system in a single product. The NovaPro UHD has multiple 4K inputs, and 4K send capability.

RTVE PRADO DEL REY

A total of 15 screens (curved and flat) have been installed across various sets used for producing “La Mañana de la 1”, “A partir de hoy”, “La aventura del saber”,“Aquí la tierra”,“ Corazón ”and“ España Directo ”. For the latter, the largest curved screen has been configured with a length of 14 metres and a total resolution of 6,414,336 pixels (5568 x 1152 active). The installed screen area is close to 200 square metres with a total of 769 Alfalite Modularpix Pro P2 2.6 modules and their corresponding processing and scaling systems such as the Alfalite LVP4K. The image processing and scaling system is made up of Alfalite’s LVP4Ks and NovaStar’s ‘all-in-one’ VX4s. In the case of the LVP4K, it allows a configuration of up to 4 HDMI 2.0 inputs with support for UHD resolutions and with up to 8 DVI outputs that feed the display controllers, a task carried out by the NovaStar MCTRL600 equipment which is capable of handling up to 2.3 million of pixels.

All the screens at both locations have a robust structure to support their weight and size. All are equipped with protected power supplies.

The entire installation has been carried out without interrupting the production of the news or programmes. It was necessary to carry out exhaustive planning and a deployment of important human and technical resources to guarantee seamless continuity of operation. “Alfalite technology was ideal for this demanding project," says Rafael Zapardiel of Datos' Media Sales department. We chose the company's ModularPix Pro 1 modules which have already proved an excellent solution to the needs that arose in other RTVE sets. They now providing a visualization and scenography system that, in one case, goes up to 8K horizontal resolution. This forms a superb visual solution giving for use during the broadcast of the RTVE news. ”

ATG Danmon Designs and Integrates Latest-Generation Newsroom and Edit Suites for Alaraby Television

ATG Danmon Designs and Integrates Latest-Generation Newsroom and Edit Suites for Alaraby Television

Accompanying images show Studios 1 and 2 at Alaraby Television’s newly upgraded London headquarters.

London, UK, August 3rd, 2021 -  ATG Danmon announces the completion of a large-scale upgrade to the news production and editing facilities at the London headquarters of Alaraby Television. Based in Park Royal, Alaraby broadcasts via satellite to viewers throughout the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, as well as globally via cable and online.

"News and documentary programmes form a core part of our output," comments Ali Husseini, director of broadcast operations & visuals at Alaraby. "Key objectives were to advance our news reporting, ingest, production and playout systems to latest-generation workflow, allowing staff at our headquarters and around the world to operate with maximum efficiency and creativity as a unified team. Our legacy infrastructure remained active until the new system was fully commissioned so that editors and their production colleagues could transition as easily as possible."

“Alaraby selected us to design, engineer and integrate a complete system from content acquisition right through to presentation," adds ATG Danmon project manager Howard Dixon. "The front end comprises 12 channels of news ingest capturing to a dedicated server with proxy file-generation capability. This feeds through to a 75-client news production platform with full asset management resources, 120 terabytes of production storage and cloud-connected browsing. Studio playout is fully automated and includes a multichannel MPEG gallery playout server. The graphics system provides a range of image generation capabilities including a scrolling text news ticker, virtual studio generation plus a video wall feed. We were also commissioned to upgrade eight craft edit suites, replacing a third-party installation with latest-generation Avid editors, plus network switching and transcoding."

ATG Danmon worked across the production control gallery and master control room, providing cabling, racks and interfaces where necessary. A new data centre was equipped which could be operated alongside the channel's existing data centre during the transition to the new system. This included designing and integrating KVM control interfaces allowing newsroom and edit suite operators to switch between the legacy and latest-generation systems.

"As is normal on projects of this kind, we partnered closely with Alaraby's management team and studio staff to ensure that full broadcast continuity was maintained throughout the entire process of upgrading," adds ATG Danmon managing director Russell Peirson-Hagger. "Programme rehearsal, live presentation, post production and playout all proceeded as normal throughout the upgrade. Much of the installation work was performed at night so that studio operation could proceed without disturbance. Precautions were also taken to ensure Covid-19 safeguarding."

Hiltron Completes Multi-Antenna Satellite Link System for German Broadcast News Network

Hiltron Completes Multi-Antenna Satellite Link System for German Broadcast News Network

Backnang, Germany, May 25th, 2021 – Hiltron Communications, a globally active satellite system integrator, manufacturer and distributor, announces the completion of a satellite uplink and downlink system for one of Germany's largest television news broadcasters. The project includes six antennas and related control infrastructure which will be used to communicate with the network's associate organisations around the world.

"Following successful acceptance, we created a solution which integrates fully into the news production workflow," says Hiltron managing director Antonio Monteverde. "Easy and efficient operation were essential requirements. The antennas are located on a city-centre rooftop earth station and operated via remote links from the network's master control room. Hiltron software allows the system to be supervised via a single browser-based display screen showing all relevant performance parameters, confidence lights and alerts. Most important of all, de-icers in the antenna panels can be activated automatically if the rooftop temperature creates any risk of freezing."

"All six of the new antennas will be used to capture incoming signals", details Hiltron project manager Guy Van Bambeke. "Five of the reflectors are from General Dynamics, one being 3 metres in diameter and four being 3.7 metres. The sixth is a 2.7 metre Laminas dish which we have equipped to capture simultaneous feeds from three orbital positions, in this case 7 degrees east, 13 degrees east and 19.2 degrees east. Each antenna is on a fixed mount.

"We have also refurbished three existing antennas which will function both as uplinks and downlinks. That part of the project included the provision and integration of Hiltron ACU antenna control units which are used to control the dish azimuth and elevation. Each comprises a standalone unit contained in a weatherproofed outdoor housing, remotely operated via an IP data stream from a standard PC. Once a satellite is selected, precise access parameters can be determined by pressing a single button.

"Last and not least, we have integrated 13 Swedish Microwave low noise block downconverters. These are high-performance units which ensure the received data conforms fully to broadcast specification."

Hiltron ACU antenna control units are designed to control three-axis motorised antennas. The antenna control unit and associated motor-control electronics are contained in an IP65-rated weatherproof outdoor housing with a hinged front access port secured by dual key screws. Each control unit can be operated from a PC running a graphic user interface compatible with standard web browsers. The control GUI displays all the information required to set and maintain azimuth, elevation and polarisation, including current and target positions plus a database of potential accessible satellites.

ATG Danmon Completes Studio Relocation and Modernisation for International News Agency

ATG Danmon Completes Studio Relocation and Modernisation for International News Agency

Multiscreen_Display_and_Opereational_ATG
Accompanying image shows the multiscreen display and operational desks for master control.

London, UK, February 3th, 2021
 – ATG Danmon (www.atgdanmon.co.uk) announces the completion of new broadcast television production facilities for one of the largest and longest established global news agencies. The project included the design and integration of two new studios plus associated galleries and a master control room.

"This assignment coincided with a relocation to new premises in London's Canary Wharf financial hub," says ATG Danmon Managing Director Russell Peirson-Hagger. "The new studios form the UK core of a global service the agency offers to television and radio broadcasters in addition to its role as an international news provider. We partnered closely with the studio management team from the initial design phase through to system completion, testing and staff training. Cable prefabrication was performed at our Letchworth headquarters prior to the onsite build. New equipment installed included power-efficient LED lighting, Ross routing and RTS talkback. We also integrated cameras from the agency's former location."

"We have installed a 12G SDI routing core which is configured for HD but can also handle UHD if required at any time in the future," adds ATG Danmon Head of Systems Integration Jonathan Hughes. "At its core are a latest-generation Ross Ultrix router and Ross Carbonite Ultra vision mixer which we recommended to replace ageing third-party equipment. Representatives from the agency came with us to Ross Video's UK facility in Reading and were greatly impressed by the demonstration. Carbonite is an HDR-capable 3 M/E UHD mixer with a versatile control panel and a very compact processor. We have also upgraded the graphics and character generation to a Ross XPression which supports perspective-based image manipulation and real-time animation. This includes a MOS software gateway with an offline render engine."

Audio infrastructure includes Dante audio-over-IP networking which ATG Danmon recommended and integrated. This is bridged to the Ultrix router which performs the embedding and distribution switching. ATG Danmon upgraded the intercom system to an RTS Odin which can handle up to 128 ports in a single 1 U chassis with support for up to eight such units.

Being very news focused, the agency has many incoming audio contribution feeds so ATG Danmon integrated a SIP-based server from Broadcast Bionics with Dante emerging from the other side. This is currently configured for eight lines which are used for IFB talkback and contribution to live on-air shows.

For the Studio A gallery, ATG Danmon integrated a main production desk with an embedded Ross Carbonite Ultra. Behind this is a journalist desk with Avid iNews terminals and Autocue teleprompt control. Both desks face a wall-mounted array of NEC UHD video monitors in multiscreen configuration. A desk with an integrated Allen & Heath audio mixer was also populated and connected into the system. This faces a NEC multi-screen monitor.

Studio B is the smaller of the two studios. For its production gallery, ATG Danmon integrated a desk equipped for graphics, vision mixing, newsroom-computer and Panasonic robotic camera control. An audio mixer is located on the right. The monitor wall display has essentially the same configuration as that in the Studio A production gallery.

The project was completed on schedule and within budget.
